Today Mr. Max gave us a work period. We had to finish and show him 3 joke sheet pages on graphing for a homework check. We also worked on Accilerated Math to work on 60 objections for next Friday.

Today in math, Mr. Max went around the room looking at everyones homework, then he collected our mental math sheets, and after that we all worked on our accelerated math. Later, he showed us more about Domain & Range.

Today january 7 in math Mr.Max showed us what a Relation and a function is. All functions are relations and a relationis a set of orderd pairs or or anything that can be graphed on a 2-d graph.

Today wasn't a very eventful day in math. We started off with our usual mental math and then went on to working up to our 48 objectives, which are due by the end of FRIDAY. Mr. Max also went around and finished checking our 2D/3D projects spreadsheets. That was about it for today, Merry Christmas!!

Today we began with Mental Math (#41), as usual. After completing Mental Math, we were then reminded by Mr. Maksymchuk two things:

Today is the last day to get your 2D/3D Projects Spreadsheet checked and marked by Mr. Maksymchuk.
There are 48 objectives due before the Christmas break (Friday, December 21st). Also, Mr. Maksymchuk will be marking us out of 37 objectives the Thursday just before the 48 objectives will be marked.

The rest of the class was given to work on Accelerated Math, or finish up your Spreadsheet.

Today we had Mr. Buckner as a substitute because, for some unknown reason, Mr. Maksymchuk was not here. So we worked mainly on our Accelerated Math and were able to scan things this time. Also, the Excel Formula Spreadsheets are due on Monday if you didn't get them checked on Thursday. Have a good weekend!

Sorry for the tardiness on the blog, on Monday, we worked on accelerated math all class and got assigned an excel spreadsheet, containing the area and volume of all common 2D/3D shapes. Which is due on either wednesday at the end of class or thursday.

Today in class Mr.Max started off the class as usual with mental math. Then he gave us 5 minutes to prove a sloving probem that he gave us all last night for homework. Then for the rest of the class we did are accelerated math hoping to get 48 objectives before the christmas holiday break.

Today in class we started out with mental math number 34. Then Mr.Max told us to do our test corrections from our test on coordinate geometry. We were supposed to hand them in at the end of class. If we did a good job on the corrections he said he would give us an extra 5%! Our 37 accelerated math objectives were due yesturday. Well I think that just about covers it. Have a good night.

Today in class Mr.Max taught and discussed the Law Of Cosines with us untill shortly after three O' clock. He then gave us the rest of class to work on Accelerated math. During the lecture he quoted, "Never use the law of cosines in the same problem more than once!!!!"

Today was interesting. we learned the "Law of Sines".

It was definetly confusing in some parts so hang on!

This here PARAGRAGH, is the definition for the "Law of Sines".

This is a question that Mr. Maksymchuck came up with.we started with picking an "unknown" to solve for, which you can see on the image.

The second step was the "set up of the ratios" Mr. Max told us a pretty.... reasuring way to do this

He then showed us how to use one whole equation on how to figure out how to figure out that "unknown".

On this image, Fuddy showed us a way on how to figure out the whole thing with something he(and a bunch of the other kids) learned last year called the "fish"

The answer we got was right, but Mr. Max told us that this won't work every time, and you can't show your work by doing this.

Today Mr. Maksymchuk gave us some notes on how to solve trigonometry word problems. He drew us some ugly pictures (his words, not mine), to show us what to do. Here are some of the pictures.

This picture shows a stick-man and the angle of elevation (or inclination), and the angle of depression (or declination). Do not get the two mixed up.

As of now, and continuing until Friday, November 16th, the NEW COMPUTER ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE is in place, so please check the North Green Chalkboard in the classroom for your assigned machine....Ashley/Tanya have been assigned computers in the resource centre for this assignment period. "Your" computer will continue to change approximately weekly for the rest of the semester.

On an unrelated note, check out the posts below (especially Logan's and Lizzy Bee's). Logan has quite effectively demonstrated an answer to the question "What does a typically good blog scribe post look like?", and Lizzy Bee effectively demonstrated that even if you forget to scribe on the day you're assigned, you can quickly recover and contribute meaningfully to your class. Math Class Nov. 6th

The class started off with Mental Math, as usual, then we proceeded to do another quiz question to prepare us for the Coordinate Geometry Test this Friday.

The question gave us a linear equation and a point (x,y) and asked us to find the slope (m) of the line parallel to that line. First we solved the linear equation to y=mx+b. So then, because the slope was 2/3, the slope of the parallel line was also 2/3. Slopes of parallel lines are the same.

The next step was to use either slope y-intercept form or point-slope form to find the linear equation of that parallel line with the x, y coordinate on it. We chose to use slope y-intercept form and substituted our x and y values, and our slope (m) to find out the y-intercept (b). So once we worked out what b was, we put our slope and y-intercept in slope y-intercept form (y=mx+b) and came to a correct end result.

Here is a visual representation of the quiz question we did today on graph paper.

This is a useful piece of information about all Standard Form Equations and will help you with a few questions in the parallel and perpendicular lines section in Accelerated Math.

After we completed the practice quiz question, we were given the rest of the class to work on Accelerated Math.

Yesterday in math we began by doing some Mental Math as usual. We then found out that we have a TEST this week on FRIDAY. It will be about coordinate geometry. Mr. Maksymchuk then proceeded to teach us about writing formulas in standard form, point form, y-intercept, etc. While learning these things, we had a practice quiz.

Yesterday in math class everyone in the school went on a Moga Madness walk. This walk was to raise money for food for people in Africa. People could buy a grain bag that was $2 a bag. Everyone had to think of a way to bring there bags of grain to the grain tower. Overall there was many studends who went on this walk and thought of many different ways of bringing the grain to the tower.

Today Mr. Max showed us the second and third linear form on his computer. The two forms were the Point-Slope Form, and the Standard Form. He then very simply showed us what Graphmatica program is used for. For the rest of the class he let us work on Accelerated Math.

What We Did Today.

OK...so today our class began by doing some mental math. Then Mr. Maksymchuk made us close our eyes and he asked us some questions. After that we did another one of those word/brain puzzle things. We spent the rest of the class on the laptops and on the blog. Mr. Maksymchuk explained about being a scribe. So I did my job...and I think I'm done now...? Pretty sure that's all that we did today.
